CIS 312 Lab 5 Process Information
Complete the following steps. Submit a screen shot of steps 2 and 5 and the answers to steps 4, 7, and 8 in a Word document.
1. Using the credentials provided to you by your professor, login to the unix-online.strayer.edu server.
2. On the command-line, execute the following command:
$ cat /proc/stat | more
3. Save a screenshot of the output produced by the command. You will need to submit it for grading.
4. Use the command’s output to answer the following questions:
a. What is the total number of processes currently running?
b. What is the total number of processes currently blocked?
c. For each processor explain the numbers in each column?
5. On the command-line, execute the following command:
$ cat /proc/meminfo
6. Save a screenshot of the output produced by the command. You will need to submit it for grading.
7. Use the command’s output to answer the following questions:
a. What is the total amount of RAM in MB?
b. How much memory is in the page file or swap file?
c. What is the amount of free memory in MB?
8. Describe how you would use the information produced by these commands.
